Lineage Brewing , 2971 N. High Street , Columbus,

Phoebe Allebach
Started in 1999 in New York City, Cranksgiving is a celebration of cycling and charity that now has events around the globe.

How does it work? Simple. Cranksgiving is a free event for anyone with a bike and a desire to do good. Show up on two wheels, and we’ll hand you a list of needed items and a map of stores. Roll out, visit as many stores as you like, buy as little or as much as you want, haul it all by bike, and then enjoy some post-ride socializing at our ride start/finish, Lineage Brewing*.

All items purchased by participants will be donated to the Clintonville-Beechwold Community Resources Center. The more stores you visit and the more you haul, the better chance you’ll have of winning an award or raffle prize!

Though the event is free, you will need to RSVP through EventBrite in order to receive the necessary pre-ride information.

Please note that Cranksgiving aims to promote cycling as a mode of transit and make sure cyclists are well thought of in the community. Please be courteous when riding and follow the rules of the road.

*There is no parking for Cranksgiving participants at Lineage. Please follow this page for updates on parking locations. Also please note that you should arrive no earlier than 10am and leave no later than 11am to accommodate Lineage opening for regular business.

- Who do I contact with questions? Please send an email to
- What should I bring? Obviously you’ll need a bike and a way to carry the items you purchase. This could be a backpack, rack and panniers, basket, or even a trailer. Helmets and lights are encouraged. Locks are also recommended for while you are inside stores.
- How far will I have to ride? We will provide you a map with a suggested route to hit all the stores. However, this is a “choose your own adventure” ride, so the total distance is up to you and you will be responsible for navigating on your own. Go to as many or as few stores as you like; it’s easy to get back to Lineage from any of them.
- What is the route like? The suggested route will include streets (picked for being cyclist friendly) as well as the Olentangy Trail multi-use path.
- What will I be purchasing? We’ll get a final list from CRC of the items they need prior to the event and provide this to you on the day of the event. Expect it to contain non-perishable food items, especially those needed for Thanksgiving dinner.
- I don’t consider myself a “cyclist”; can I participate? Of course! Cranksgiving is open to anyone with a bike and a sense of charity. This is not a race, and any old bike will do. Families and kids are welcome as well!
- What happens if I have a mechanical issue while riding? We will have a “SAG Wagon” available to pickup stranded riders and are working on partnering with a local shop to provide mechanical services.
