This month's question: How should we deal with artificial intelligence? 

 

Broadly understood, artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of study that aims to build artificial computational systems that employ intelligent behavior, i.e., behaviors that were previously reserved for humans. While some tout AI as a panacea to many of our problems, others warn that AI poses its own risks and problems, including issues of privacy and manipulation, opacity and bias, human-robot interaction, employment, and the effects of autonomy. Given the rapid, exponential growth of AI, how should we deal with artificial intelligence, especially as it becomes a more and more central part of our lives?
